BADGER SCOUTS OF AMERICA
JOIN EFFORT TO PROTECT COMMUNITIES

Ann Arbor, MI - Amidst a great deal of controversy and public debate , Senator Kelly enlisted the support of one of America's most popular youth clubs in an effort to combat what Kelly has labeled, "the greatest scourge of the twenty-first century." In accordance with Kelly's Mutant Registry initiatives, the 80-year-old Badger Scouts of America organization has added a new merit badge to its longstanding service tradition -- the "Righteous Citizens Badge," which awards Badger scouts an additional 75 service points for correctly identifying and reporting suspected mutants to the proper authorities.

To acquire the highly coveted Righteous Citizens Badge, scouts must correctly identify individuals who exhibit signs of advanced genetic enhancement and report them to their local authorities. Since the new service badge was introduced, forty-three mutants have been correctly identified by Badger Scouts, two of them from within one of their own troops.

Many parents have expressed concern for what many see as an inappropriate use of their children as "mini-police." Others strongly disagree.

"I think it's never too soon to teach the youth of today the importance of community service and social responsibility," says one dedicated troop leader. "The way I see it, the kids are learning to use their critical thinking skills while servicing their communities."

The Badger Scouts of America was founded in 1920 and chartered by Congress in 1925 as a means to help build the character of America's youth and to train them in the responsibilities of citizenship. The BSA plans to strengthen its relationship with the National Mutant Registry Service through which their youth members will provide an additional one million service hours. The National Mutant Registry Service offers a special commemorative patch to BSA youth members who complete 15 hours of service at any of their local branches.
